Banner Health says burn injuries are on the rise, advising safe practices when BBQing for Father’s Day weekend.
Over the past ten years, burn injuries from grilling have jumped by 18%. The Health Center says there are key safety precautions to be mindful of to avoid winding up in the hospital: Properly clean your grill before cooking to avoid such things as grease fires, check all leaks and breaks, do not BBQ under low lying tree branches as they can catch fire, always grill on an even leveled surface, and never leave a grill unattended while children and pets are around. Banner Health has seen children admitted under the age of 5 due to unattended grills causing severe burns.
Always remember that after you use your grill, high heat can be retained for up to an hour.
