Highlights: Significant progress continues across both fires. Residents in the Rancho Haven, Red Rock, and Antelope Valley areas were able to return home today, and all Washoe County schools will be in session as scheduled. Containment continues to increase as firefighters strengthen containment lines and extinguish remaining hot spots. Crews who camped overnight in the Dogskin Mountains made significant progress addressing remaining heat along the containment line and were reassigned midday yesterday. As conditions improve and operational needs decrease, some resources are beginning to be released from the incident, allowing firefighters and support personnel to return home and spend some much-needed time with their families.

Operations: Crews continue to make progress securing the fire’s edge, protecting structures, and addressing remaining heat around the perimeter of both fires. Structure protection resources remain vigilant in the Rancho Haven, Red Rock, and Antelope Valley areas, monitoring conditions and working to ensure communities remain safe as residents return home.

Weather, Fire Behavior and Smoke: The drying trend from the last two days will continue, with temperatures in the 80s and humidity in the low teens. Today the wind is expected to pick up with gusts up to 30-35 mph, especially on the southeast end of both the Bug and Stallion Fires. Smoke from the Bug, Stallion, and other regional fires may continue to impact surrounding communities. Local air-quality conditions can be found at Fire.AirNow.gov.

Evacuations and Closures: Per Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, all evacuations and fire-related road closures have been lifted for the Bug Fire. Updates for evacuations for the Stallion Fire can be found at https://perimetermap.com/washoe. For further questions, call Washoe County 311 or visit www.emergencywashoe.com.

Safety: “If you fly, we can’t!” As residents return to communities near the fires, please remember that firefighters and heavy equipment remain actively working along roadways and throughout the area. Please remember: if you fly drones near a fire, we cannot safely operate aircrafts. Drone incursions ground air support, hinders suppression and emergency response, and puts crews and the public at risk.
