Wet weather is causing driving damage to roads on public lands; the BLM in Alturas is asking you to limit your time if out recreating.
Due to recent weather bringing heavy rainfall, the public lands are in a state of erosion and have a high potential for your vehicles to damage the roads. Applegate Field Manager Craig Drake is asking you to pay close attention to road conditions when cutting wood. He also reminds you that it is a violation to “rut” the roads. The best time to plan activities is in the early morning while the grounds are frozen, preventing you from creating deep ruts that must be repaired as the weather warms.
Winter weather conditions remain in the forecast to pack safety survival essentials if you plan to recreate on BLM lands.
