BLM Litchfield Corrals Re-open Following Strangles Outbreak


The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced reopening the Litchfield Wild Horse and Burro Corral for visits, adoptions, and purchases. The facility had temporarily closed to allow for the recovery of a group of animals that had contracted an equine infection known as strangles.

Adoptions and purchases are available by appointment only and can be scheduled during a visit to the corral or by contacting the facility at 530-254-6575.

Emily Ryan, the manager of the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office in Susanville, expressed that all animals have made a full recovery and will be prepared for placement in good homes. The facility is open for animal viewing from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
