The prescribed burn at Ash Creek Wildlife Refuge in Big Valley, originally scheduled for Thursday, September 5th, has been postponed by officials due to unfavorable weather conditions. CAL FIRE, in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, had planned to conduct the burn as part of a multi-year project aimed at managing various sections of the refuge based on specific needs.

The prescribed burn, covering approximately 146 acres, is designed to improve wildlife habitat, reduce noxious weeds, and manage vegetation along Highway 299. These efforts are intended to better protect the refuge and surrounding homes and ranches from potential wildfires.

New dates for the prescribed burn will be announced once conditions are deemed favorable.
