The Big Valley Ranger District of the Modoc National Forest was forced to temporarily close its doors as a result of the Cemetery Fire.
As of 4 p.m. on October 8th, all evacuation orders have been lifted, according to the Modoc County Sheriff’s Office. Fire crews are actively mopping up the area and remained onsite for several hours after forward progress was stopped at 56 acres to ensure containment.
All road closures have also been lifted, but authorities advise caution while traveling through the area as firefighting personnel and equipment are still present.
The Modoc National Forest Service reported that no government equipment or property at the Big Valley Ranger District Office was damaged, thanks to the swift response from Forest Service resources that played a crucial role in the aggressive initial attack.
Crews will continue to strengthen containment lines and conduct mop-up operations to ensure the fire is fully under control. For more details, visit CAL FIRE’s incident page.
