Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick (R-Alturas) participated in California Agriculture Day at the State Capitol on March 19, joining farmers and ranchers to celebrate the state’s agricultural economy. During the event, Hadwick and her husband engaged with attendees, discussing various aspects of ranch life, animal care, and the importance of family farms in the food system.

Hadwick showcased two Highland cattle from her family farm—Hickory, a bull, and Skye, a cow—drawing significant attention to the contributions of rural producers in California. The event, hosted by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and supported by organizations like California Women for Agriculture, aims to connect lawmakers with diverse agricultural producers, including those involved in cattle, dairy, pork, poultry, and more.

In a statement, Hadwick emphasized the vital role agriculture plays in California’s economy and lifestyle, noting that these events highlight the efforts behind food production. Agriculture contributes over $50 billion annually to the state’s economy, with Hadwick’s 1st Assembly District, covering Modoc County and much of Northern California, heavily reliant on farming and ranching.

Hadwick stressed the importance of continuing support for these communities, acknowledging the critical role they play in feeding the nation. As the event concluded, she reflected on the significance of recognizing the hard work of California’s farmers and ranchers and the essential contributions they make to the nation’s food supply.
