The first annual Lassen County Career Opportunity Workshop successfully hosted over 500 students across the County, spearheaded by District 5 Supervisor Jason Ingram.

The event welcomed 9th to 12h graders from Herlong to Big Valley who could browse through company and agency booths, including CALFIRE, the police and sheriff’s departments, Forest Service, LCC Nursing, and Ag and Weights Department, to name only a few. Each vendor was able to highlight their organization’s unique offerings and opportunities for a career right at home within the County. Theresa Phillips with LMUD said it had been needed for a long time. It has been an excellent opportunity to educate the high schoolers on community owner power and the various career paths available.

Supervisor Ingram created the career opportunity workshop after realizing the unprecedented workforce shortage throughout the County, saying it’s time to provide career opportunities to students to encourage economic prosperity in Lassen. Ingram says although he is pleased with the success of this year’s event, he hopes to make it even bigger next year, with talks of hosting the career day at Lassen High School.
