More details emerge as the search intensifies for escaped inmate 39-year-old Caleb Duerr. The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office reveals Duerr manipulated two fenced areas in the jail’s recreation yard and fled to the nearby O’Reilly Auto Parts store, where he was able to get a ride from a customer. That person later reported dropping Duerr off at the intersection of Highway 70 and County Road A-23 near Beckwourth, where Duerr was last seen walking southbound near the gravel pits between 9:30 and 10:00 a.m.

We know the Sheriff’s Office brought in Allied agencies, including K-9 units and air operations in efforts to locate Duerr, yet despite multiple reported sightings between Quincy and Portola, all turned out to be misidentifications, K-9 units were unable to pick up Duerr’s scent, and aerial searches conducted by the CHP and Washoe County were also unsuccessful. Law enforcement from Plumas, Sierra, Butte, and Yuba counties, along with the U.S. Forest Service and CHP, continue to actively search for Duerr.

Since the escape, it has been confirmed that Duerr made contact with individuals via email, suggesting he has gained access to either a phone or a computer with internet service. Authorities are now expanding the search beyond the area, as Duerr has family and friends in California, Oregon, and Nevada, and he may have left the region to seek assistance.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office warns that Duerr is considered dangerous and urges the public not to engage with him if spotted. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office at 530-283-6300 or dial 9-1-1.

The search for Caleb Duerr continues, with law enforcement agencies at the county, state, and federal levels collaborating to locate and apprehend the escaped inmate. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
