County Fair Manager Kaitlyn Midgley says state regulators have tightened their grip on pyrotechnic vendors by increasing prices and insurance requirements, forcing many vendors out of the state, and consolidating those that are left into one entity. This has reduced options for the fair to pursue as the current vendor stated they could not make it up to Lassen County for the Fourth yet could possibly look at another date option.
Upon learning that there would be no firework show from that organization Midgley sent out requests for proposals on Februrary 29th to ensure a fireworks display at the fairgrounds, a long-standing county tradition following the races. No bids were received for two weeks, forcing the fair to seek alternatives. Midgley said this could be in the form of the increasingly popular drone displays witnessed nationally and globally.
Midgley said it was very sad to see the fireworks go and extended thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, and firefighters who have let the show go on for so many years.
