Following a manhunt that lasted nearly a month, escaped inmate Caleb Duerr is in custody.

Duerr has been on the run since September 27th when he was able to escape the Quincy jail recreational yard during a morning rec time by what the Sheriff’s Office says, manipulating two fences. He then caught a ride at the O’Reilly’s Auto store just yards from the jail. He was able to make it into Eastern Plumas County, last seen along County Road A-13 and SR 70, managing to evade a multi-jurisdictional manhunt that included k9s and CHP air operations.

Authorities believed he had known contacts throughout the region aiding in his evasion with known ties in neighboring states launching a federal effort from FBI Marshalls.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office says Duerr was believed to have returned to his home in Johnsville on October 17th.

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and Investigations Unit set up a perimeter around the area. They spotted Duerr at his home and quickly called for backup from other agencies.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office sent their SWAT team, drone team, K9 unit, and hostage negotiators. Support also came from the Sierra County Sheriff’s K9 unit, U.S. Forest Service law enforcement, Sacramento County’s SWAT, K9, drone teams, and the FBI from Reno and Eastern Plumas Healthcare.

After developing a plan, the units approached Duerr’s house and called him out. He surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without any issues.

Duerr is being held in the Plumas County Jail without bail.

Sheriff Todd Johns thanked the allied agencies for thier assistance in Duerr’s apprehension along with the community for thier support.
