The Lassen-Modoc CAL FIRE unit says hundreds of lightning strikes have occurred within their protection area this past week. 10 of those strikes caused reports of a fire to which crews responded and only two needed suppression efforts made. With the continuing chance of thunderstorms throughout the week into the weekend, the Lassen-Modoc unit has increased staffing and will continue to support local agencies. The team has even sent multiple strike teams of crews and engines to assist with the McKinney Fire burning in Siskiyou County which is near 60,000 acres with no containment and already claiming the lives of 4.
