Plumas County Public Health will close the Quincy youth center permanently. The pilot program launched during the COVID pandemic as a drop-in center for students, yet due to lack of participation, the center is being forced to close its doors. The center provided free wi-fi, use of laptops, games, a homework room, musical instruments, and snacks to students Tuesdays through Fridays and even held educational classes on alcohol, drug, and tobacco prevention. Despite closing its center doors public health will carry on its educational outreach to students with a different approach to combat underage drinking and other abuse with a boots-on-the-ground method by going back into the schools to meet students where they are. The Quincy youth center will officially close on July 1st.
