Sierra County received a 120,000 dollar grant for a Sierra County Wildfire Evacuation Route Plan and Development Program. The funds come from the state’s California Climate Investment for fire prevention programs and will be under the control of CALFIRE. The 120K will help provide upgrades, enhancements, and the creation of databases, GIS layers, and emergency identification data. In Phase one a complete road inventory will be created to identify what roads can be used for evacuation routes, as well as identify potential safe zones. A second grant will need to be pursued once phase one is completed to fund the send step to complete the planning process for evacuation routes and development. Phase one funds are to be spent by March of 2024.
