Feather River College students may have access to affordable housing with state planning grant. The college has consistently had an issue with providing enough housing for its students with a typical waitlist of 60 to 70 students each year. With the impacts of the Dixie fire students have faced an even greater challenge. FRC is asking for a near 350 thousand dollar planning grant from the state department of finance for a new on campus housing complex to ease the burden to students. The complex could potentially be made up of 126 studios, 1 bedroom and two bedroom family style apartments. President of the college Kevin Trutna stressed in the proposal that the college needed the housing so students would not have to compete with locals for the affordable housing that remains limited in the county. The process is a ways out as the college has only made the list of projects recommended to be approved, but if seen through the 2022-23 state budget with these projects included would need to pass, then a design team and site analysis can begin.
