You will see smoke as you pass through the Butterfly Valley area. The smoke is coming from a pile burning project by the Plumas National Forest in the Mt. Hough Ranger District. The operations will continue through the rest of this week. Smoke may be visible into the weekend after completion. The burn is reducing fuel loading and the number of small diameter trees in the area. Because the burn is located near Butterfly Valley, burning will only take place when safe and allowed by the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District.
