Lassen National Forest Day 2 of the Drake Underburn focused on controlled fire operations only under safe conditions.
Crews treated units 6 and 8, covering 169 acres. The goal targeted reducing surface and mid-level canopy fuels to lower the chance of severe wildfires.
Fire officials stopped operations once winds increased in the area. Higher winds are expected in the coming days, so teams will secure, monitor, and patrol treated units to prevent flareups.
CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit, U.S. Forest Service-Plumas National Forest, and Redding Smokejumpers worked together on this effort. Their cooperation plays a key role in managing fire safely and effectively.
