Community Collaboration Shapes Future of Chester Park Town Center

The Lake Almanor Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up with Plumas County to collect community ideas for redesigning Chester Park into a functional town center.

Earlier this month, chamber representative Chelsea Harrison worked with Brianna Swofford and Tracey Ferguson from the Plumas County Planning Department. They asked locals, “What do you want Chester Park to become?”

They set up boards at Holiday Market where people stopped to learn about the project and share their thoughts.

The outreach included year-round residents, summer visitors, travelers, and others. Participants highlighted features and improvements they want to see as Chester Park develops into a town center.

The Chester Town Center project started through the Recharge Our Community’s Economy initiative. This program, part of the Rural Community Assistance Corporation’s Building Rural Economies Smart Growth Program, supports rural areas in finding opportunities and building projects that boost local economies.

After workshops and meetings last year, the community selected Chester Town Center as the project to pursue.

Organizers focus on listening to the community now instead of presenting a final plan. The feedback will guide priorities for accessibility, recreation, gathering spaces, events, infrastructure, and ways to support local businesses.

The chamber plans more opportunities for residents, businesses, youth, seniors, and visitors to share ideas.
