The Honey Lake Valley Recreation Authority will hold a special workshop at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27. The goal is to discuss ways to keep the community pool open after the city and county’s 10-year funding ends.
The workshop will cover all parts of pool operations, including budget, fees, and scheduling. The authority wants to hear ideas from the public.
President Mike Scanlan said the situation is difficult. He expects tough decisions and knows not everyone will be happy with the outcome.
Public member Nick McBride emphasized the need for the workshop to understand the pool’s current condition and future options.
Board member Tom Neely warned that without continued funding from the city and county, the pool will close. He stressed urgency.
Board member Dawn Miller agreed, saying the authority must act quickly.
Scanlan raised concerns about following California’s Brown Act during the workshop. The board discussed forming an ad-hoc committee after the meeting to review ideas. This committee would avoid Brown Act restrictions since it would not include a majority of the board.
At the recent meeting, the board approved the minutes from July 21 by a 4-0-1 vote. Miller did not vote because she was not on the board then.
Scanlan will remain board president. The board reviewed financial reports and received an update from the executive officer.
The next regular meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Sept. 15.
