The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment on proposed updates to oil and gas leasing and development on public lands in central California.
The proposed updates apply to public lands managed by the BLM Central Coast and Bakersfield Field Offices, including areas in Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Fresno, Merced, San Joaquin, Kern, Kings, Madera, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Tulare, and Ventura counties.
BLM will host two virtual public meetings to discuss the draft plan:
• January 29, 2026, from 5–6:30 p.m. PT
• February 3, 2026, from 5–6:30 p.m. PT
Both meetings will be held via Zoom. Registration is required.
The effort aligns with Secretary’s Order 3418, supporting the administration’s goal to increase domestic energy production on federal lands.
Comments may be submitted through the BLM National NEPA Register using the “Participate Now” option. The public comment period closes March 6, 2026.
