Jury Trials: We tried five cases before juries this month, including the following notable convictions:
- Ricardo Palmerin, 31, and David Morales, 32, inmates at High Desert State Prison, were convicted of the February 2021 murder of another HDSP inmate. The jury found the murder was willful, deliberate, and premeditated. Sentencing is scheduled for November 7, 2025. This case was submitted by High Desert State Prison and prosecuted by Special Prosecutor J. Funk.
- Corey Jay Cutler, 31, of Susanville, was convicted of the attempted murder of a Susanville man in July 2023. The jury found true allegations that Cutler personally discharged a firearm during the attempt, inflicted great bodily injury, and committed the crime willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation. His next court date is November 4, 2025; sentencing has not yet been set. This case was submitted by the Susanville Police Department and prosecuted by District Attorney Rios.
Additionally, two of the jury trials resulted in acquittals. We share this to highlight the important role Lassen County jurors play in carefully evaluating evidence and holding the prosecution to the high standard of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
