Modoc Medical Center (MMC) is pleased to announce that the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has granted interim licensure for its new hospital addition, marking another major milestone in MMC’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to high-quality healthcare in the community.
The newly licensed addition includes two semi-private inpatient rooms, providing four additional hospital beds to serve patients locally and enhance inpatient capacity. These beds will also strengthen MMC’s ability to serve more patients through its federally approved Swing Bed Program, which provides skilled, transitional care for individuals recovering after hospitalization.
“Our expansion reflects our commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of our community,” said Kevin Kramer, Chief Executive Officer of Modoc Medical Center. “By adding new inpatient rooms and expanding our infusion and swing bed services, we’re ensuring that more patients can heal and recover close to home with the care and compassion they deserve.”
About the Swing Bed Program
MMC’s Swing Bed Program offers a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach for patients transitioning from a hospital stay to home. After hospitalization, some patients require additional therapy, support, or medical treatments to continue healing. The duration of stay depends on each patient’s individualized treatment plan and goals. Patients in the Swing Bed Program receive 24/7 physician oversight, access to in-house emergency services, on-site laboratory and imaging services, physical therapy, and pharmacist and dietitian consultations. The program’s goal is to provide each patient with the best opportunity to make a successful transition from hospital to home.

About the Infusion Department
The addition also features MMC’s new Infusion Department, which brings specialized, therapeutic treatments closer to home for patients throughout Modoc County. The department includes four treatment bays and offers a range of outpatient infusion therapies, allowing patients to receive care without facing travel-related burdens.
Infusions are administered by qualified staff experienced in numerous types of intravenous therapies. Outpatient treatments available at Modoc Medical Center include: IV and injectable antibiotics, blood transfusions and other blood components, auto-immune disorder medications, and outpatient injections. MMC’s infusion team also provides care for patients with established PICC lines and port-a-caths.
Infusion services are available Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Linda Sawyer at (530) 640-1811.
While the hospital’s addition is now licensed and operational, MMC is still awaiting CDPH licensure for Mountain View Skilled Nursing Facility. A site inspection is scheduled for November 4, 2025, with a timeline for opening to be determined after that date. MMC will notify the public as soon as this timeline is established.
