CAL FIRE Lassen Modoc Unit, in coordination with Collins Pine Almanor Forest, will be continuing the Mooney Rx timber understory prescribed burn on Friday, October 17th, 2025. Burning operations are expected to continue through the weekend and likely into the following week, as weather and fuel conditions allow for a low-intensity timber understory burn. Smoke will be visible near the communities of Westwood and Clear Creek, as well as along CA State Route 36 between Westwood and CA State Route 147. Prescribed burn signs will be posted along roadways to inform the public. There is no need to call 911 to report these burn operations.
The primary objective of this project is to reduce receptive fuels adjacent to roadways, helping to prevent roadside ignitions from becoming larger wildfires. This project also supports broader fuel reduction goals in the area, aimed at reducing the impacts of
potential future wildfires on the communities of Westwood and Clear Creek.
