Plumas County Search and Rescue Responds to ATV Accident Near Lee Summit
Early this afternoon, Plumas County Search and Rescue was paged out to assist with an ATV accident involving injuries near Lee Summit. Upon our arrival, the victim had already been located and stabilized by a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer and medic.
Working in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, Plumas County Sheriff’s Office, REMSA Health / CareFlight, and CHP – Northern Division Air Operations (Redding), our teams successfully transported the victim to a suitable hoist site. There, the CHP air crew hoisted the patient into a waiting CareFlight helicopter for transport to the hospital.
The victim came to a point he couldn’t continue and was attempting to turn around when he backed over the bank flipping end over end several times before impacting the tree that stopped his 4-wheeler approximately 125’ down but near a road. It was lucky and positive that the victim had cellular signal. When traveling in the backcounty aways tell others where you are headed and when you plan to return.
Local volunteer fire crews also played a critical role in ensuring the success of this rescue.
It truly takes a village to achieve these outcomes.
A sincere thank you to all agencies and individuals who contributed to this coordinated and effective response.
