Susanville Fire Department issued the following Press Release.
On August 19th at approximately 5:30am, the Susanville Interagency Dispatch Center dispatched multiple units from the Susanville City Fire Department (SFD) and CalFire to a reported commercial structure fire at the Sure Stay-Best Western Hotel at 2785 Main Street.
SFD E621 arrived on scene and found a 12′ section of fence between the hotel and Walgreens on fire. E621 assumed command and initiated fire attack. E621 advised SIFC to cancel all but one engine from CalFire to assist. E621 extinguished the fire and confirmed there was no extension into the hotel. CalFire E2271 arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul and complete extinguishment.
Once the overhaul was completed, a fire investigation began. The fire was determined to have started in a small homeless encampment; however, the cause is still under investigation.
There were no firefighters injuries and no displacement of any hotel occupants. The Susanville City Fire Department was supported by CalFire, The Susanville City Police Department and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department.
