Several new fires are taking off this afternoon in Northern California. The Ponderosa Fire, in the Yuba County Foothills has the most potential for damage to communities. The second new fire (Clark Fire) is burning near Little Valley, in northern Lassen County.
Our biggest fires usually become established due to competition for aerial resources during initial attack. It is still relatively early in the day. Both of these fires have potential for major growth. However, aerial attack is often very effective in the Yuba County, as this area is close to major air bases, and is usually a high-priority for resources, due to the large number of people living here.
