About 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Susanville Dispatch Center received a 911 call regarding four juveniles — ranging from 12 to 15 years old — who were under the influence of alcohol, driving a sedan eastbound on Highway 36 approaching Chester from the Red Bluff area, according to a statement by the California Highway Patrol.
Susanville and Chester CHP units responded in an attempt to intercept the vehicle.
A second 911 call reported a hit and run crash at the Best Western Hotel in Chester.
Soon thereafter, CHP units were able to locate the vehicle and the four juveniles not far from the hit and run crash location.
The juvenile driver, 15, was arrested for driving under the influence, vehicle theft, vandalism and hit and run.
The CHP thanks those 911 callers who assisted us in locating the driver and vehicle, enabling us to get an impaired and unlicensed driver off the road before something tragic happened.
