One person is dead and another is suffering moderate injuries after a truck they were in overturned on Sunday afternoon in Modoc County at Highway 299 west of County Road 73.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver, from Alturas, and the passenger were not “properly seat belted.”
According to the CHP, at 2:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, the truck drifted out of the westbound lane of Highway 299 onto the north shoulder before it overturned.
The driver of the 2003 Ford F-150 truck died at the scene of the crash. He was not identified, except for his age. He was 35 years old.
The passenger was taken to a local hospital for a laceratin on her leg, The passenger’s identity is still being withheld, but the CHP that she is 40 years old.
The collision is still under investigation. The CHP said they do not suspect that drugs or alcohol use are the cause of the collision.
