Tahoe Search and Rescue was called to rescue a lost split boarder on Sunday, December 29.

It happened near the junction of the Warr Trail and Saxon Creek Trail according to a post on the Tahoe Search and Rescue Facebook page.

The missing person and their friend had made their way up from Highway 89 and were riding downhill as darkness was setting in.

The friend didn’t want to wait and left his friend alone, several miles from any trailhead, with no light and little understanding of how to navigate the terrain, the post said.

The lost man called 911 around 5 p.m.

A ski rescue team of two left Christmas Valley around 7:30 p.m. and skinned up the Warr Trail to reach the subject.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office rescue helicopter Echo 1 confirmed the man’s location during a flyover.

The rescue team reached the man around 10 p.m. and provided hot chocolate, water, a headlamp, and warm layers.

They guided the subject back down to Christmas Valley and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office gave him a ride back to his hotel after midnight.
