San Mateo County election officials have certified the results of a recent special election, where an overwhelming 84% of voters supported Measure A. This measure grants the county’s Board of Supervisors the authority to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus from her position. With these results finalized, the supervisors are now poised to discuss further actions, including amending the county charter to enable a vote on the sheriff’s removal.

Sheriff Corpus is currently dealing with multiple lawsuits from her office’s employees, accusing her of corruption and bullying. She denies these allegations and has initiated her own lawsuit, claiming she is being unfairly targeted due to her Latinx heritage.

David Canepa, President of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, emphasized the importance of a fair and effective process moving forward. He stated that the board must ensure that Sheriff Corpus has the opportunity to present her defense before any decision is made.

The Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the Organization of Sheriff’s Sergeants expressed gratitude to the voters for their support. They issued a statement highlighting the public’s ability to challenge corruption and promote accountability, and expressed hope for leadership that aligns with their values in the future.
