A tragic incident occurred late Wednesday night in Los Molinos when a 17-year-old girl, Olivia Freemyers, was struck and killed by a train just before midnight.
Olivia, who graduated from high school in May and planned to attend cosmetology school, lived across the train tracks with her grandparents, Luke and Melinda Freemyers. Family members say the Freemyers had raised Olivia after her mother passed away. According to the family, Olivia and her boyfriend were meeting with people who lived across the tracks when the accident occurred. Melinda had dropped them off just before sunset.
Luke Freemyers confirmed that Olivia was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, as the family had been enjoying dinner together earlier in the evening.
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. Family and friends gathered near the train tracks on Thursday afternoon to leave flowers in memory of Olivia.
