In less than 100 days, disabled person drivers will need to have renewed their parking placards as required by the newest state law. If you have had your placard for six years or longer, you must return a signed renewal notice to the DMV to remain eligible for the permanent parking placard. You will no longer be automatically renewed every two years. Nearly one million people are affected by this change and could be left with an expired placard by the end of June, losing priority parking space benefits.

You may qualify for a DP placard if you have impaired mobility due to the loss of one or more lower extremities or both hands, You have a diagnosed disease that substantially impairs or interferes with mobility, You are unable to move without the aid of an assistive device, or You have specific, documented visual problems, including lower-vision or partial-sightedness.

To renew your permanent disabled person placard before the June, 30the deadline, visit a DMV office or go to the DMV website with your renewal notice. Once complete, you will get a renewal notice every six years.
