Anna Ward joined her Heavenly Father Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, in Chico, California, at the age of 63.
Anna Marie Laster was born Dec. 12, 1962, in Ukiah, California, to Marvin Glenn Laster and Dorothy Marie (Davidson) Laster. Anna had one younger brother, Steven Glenn, and a chosen family, Sandy and LaCrisha Pogue. She was also loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins, with whom she was very close.
She married Mike Ward in 1983. In 1986, they welcomed their first child, Brandon Michael. In 1987, they welcomed a daughter, Brittney Marie, and in March, 1990 they welcomed their youngest, Breanna Sue. In 1989, Anna’s nine-year-old cousin, Christopher, came to live with them, and Mike and Anna raised him until he turned 18. Anna worked in real estate in Ukiah for 10 years.
In 1998, Anna changed careers when she and her three children moved to Quincy, where she began a 13-year career working for Plumas County. First, she worked in the clerk’s office as a records management clerk, then moved departments to work as a fiscal officer for the public health department. She worked for the Plumas County Public Health Agency until she went on permanent disability in 2011. Anna gained her two most precious bonus daughters, Daniella and Ashley, from her second marriage in 2004.
Rainbow Girls, a non-profit service organization, became a big part of Anna’s life when her daughters joined in 2001. For years she dedicated her time and energy to Rainbow Girls, serving first as Mother Advisor and eventually Grand Deputy. In 2007, she was awarded the Grand Cross of Color, the highest honor the organization can confer. All four of her daughters and two of her nieces were members of the Quincy Assembly, and all the girls absolutely loved “Aunt” Ann. Anna also joined Eastern Star as a member of Mountain Star Chapter in 2006, where she was eventually awarded the title of Past Matron in 2016.
Anna spent the last 17 years with her husband, Dennis Scovell, who loved and adored her, remaining by her side for better or worse.
She is survived by her son, Brandon (Marjani); her daughters, Brittney (Javier), Breanna, Daniella (Amitesh), and Ashley (Jesse); grandchildren, Jahni, Annalei, Nolan, Eliza, Rosalie, Everett, Amalia, Nathan, Constance, Dorothy, and Baby Bailey; nieces, Gloria, Sarah and KD; nephews, Michael and Andre; close family friends, Sandy, LaCrisha (Ryan), Haylee, and Paige; and her husband, Dennis.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Chico Masonic Family Center, 1110 W East Avenue, Chico, CA 95926.
