Winter Storm Warning Issued for Lassen, Eastern Plumas, and Eastern Sierra Counties

The National Weather Service office in Reno has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Lassen, eastern Plumas, and eastern Sierra counties, affecting areas above 5,000 feet in elevation. The warning is in effect from 10:00 a.m. today until noon on Friday.

Forecasters are predicting heavy snowfall in the warned areas, with snow accumulations expected to range from 6 to 12 inches. The highest mountain peaks could receive up to 1 to 2 feet of snow.

Residents of the Honey Lake Valley can expect significant gusty winds and heavy rainfall. Ridge winds are forecasted to gust as high as 80 mph, while lower elevations may experience gusts up to 50 mph.

Travel conditions are anticipated to be extremely difficult, with potential for hazardous conditions during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. The storm’s strong winds could lead to downed tree branches, adding to travel risks.

The most intense snowfall and strongest winds are expected from this evening through early Friday morning, with snowfall rates potentially reaching 1 to 2 inches per hour at times.
