Several fires are burning in the Northstate West of Modoc County, bringing smoke impacts into the region. These fires are also the result of lightning. CALFIRE’s Lassen Modoc Unit says there were hundreds of strikes within a 24-hour period within the State Responsibility Area spring over 50 small fires that have been contained.

That red flag warning is in effect through the afternoon into this evening for abundant lightning on dry fuels. Gusty Outflow winds are possible at 30-40 MPH.
Under a Red Flag Warning, critical fire weather conditions are imminent, promoting the rapid spread of fire, which may become life-threatening.

As smoke may settle into valleys and low-lying areas from these fires, if you are a Smoke-sensitive individual with respiratory problems or heart disease, you are encouraged to take precautionary measures when outdoors during these times.
