Early Wednesday morning, the Plumas County Search and Rescue (SAR) team responded to the concerning report of a vehicle that had been discovered submerged in the river off Highway 70, just west of Rush Creek. Upon their arrival, SAR personnel thoroughly inspected the vehicle, only to find it unoccupied.
A tow truck pulled the vehicle from the water, but the absence of any occupants, both in and around the vehicle, only deepened the mystery. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Northern Division Air Operations deployed a helicopter to conduct an aerial search downstream from the crash site in hopes of locating those associated with the vehicle. Ground personnel complemented this effort, yet there were still no signs of potential occupants.
The Quincy CHP Office is investigating to identify the vehicle’s driver and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The SAR team remains on standby, ready to initiate further search efforts if evidence suggests that an individual may still be located within the river’s waters. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and contact the Quincy CHP Office at 530-283-1100.
