Early in the morning on October 15, 2024, the Susanville Fire Department (SFD) responded to a vegetation fire near Highway 139 and Hall Street. The call came in at around 12:28 a.m. When SFD’s Truck 1 (T-1) arrived on the scene, firefighters found a brush fire covering approximately 1/8 of an acre, with flames threatening a nearby residential structure.
Taking command of the situation, T-1 initiated an attack, quickly making the initial knockdown and halting the fire’s spread. CalFire units arrived shortly after, reinforcing the efforts by establishing a progressive hose line around the fire’s perimeter. CalFire Engine 2271 assumed command and released T-1 from the scene, allowing SFD to return to quarters.
The fire occurred on State Responsibility Area (SRA) land, and SFD’s response was part of an automatic aid agreement with CalFire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by CalFire. Fortunately, no injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.
