Vagrants started the house fire on Riverside Drive on Friday, according to the Susanville Fire Department.

Once the fire was quickly knocked down around 10:30 Frienday morning, investigations found that it had started in a pile of trash in the back of the house at 2415 Riverside Drive. It is believed someone dropped a hot or burning item into the pile, igniting it.

The home had been known to be vacant and often spotted with squatters seeking shelter.

The home sustained only minor smoke damage throughout. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Cal Fire, the Susanville Police Department, and Susanville Public Works provided support.
