Just after 6 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to a dropped 9-1-1 call in Cedarville.
Yet before arriving, dispatch intercepted the in-route deputies, informing them that a 3-year-old with a gunshot wound to his chest had been brought into the Surprise Valley hospital.
Tragically, the toddler was announced deceased at thier arrival; deputies confirmed the father of the boy had brought the child to the hospital from the home of where the dropped 9-1-1 call originated.
Investigations are underway to determine how the firearm was discharged.
The family of the young victim reached out following the news, emphasizing that they have been responsible parents who prioritize safety, and they stress that there is more to the story than what is known. They appreciate the support of their community and law enforcement and request compassion and understanding during this difficult time. The incident in question was described as a tragic accident, not intentional.
