Though joining the team later than expected, Deputy Mahon’s arrival was enthusiastic and warmly welcomed.
Deputy Mahon’s graduated from the prestigious 150th Butte Law Enforcement Academy in December of 2022, showcasing his dedication and commitment to pursuing a career in law enforcement. Displaying an unwavering determination to excel in his field, Deputy Mahon underwent intensive field training earlier this year, further sharpening his skills and preparing him for the challenges ahead.
Before joining, Deputy Mahon built valuable experience as a Correctional Officer in the Nevada prison system. Additionally, his brief tenure at the Plumas County Probation Department offered him insights into the unique dynamics of the local criminal justice system. This diverse background promises to be an invaluable asset in his new role.
Sheriff Johns has said the department has been down three dispatchers, stretching corrections officers to 12-hour days and running a two-deputy patrol, amid challenges to staff the department stemming from wildfires and COVID.
With the addition of Deputy Mahon, the community can rest assured that the SO capabilities have been further fortified.
