The Do’s and Don’t When Thunder Roars

With thunderstorms forecasted into the memorial day weekend, the National Weather Service shares the dos and don’ts when thunder roars. Most importantly, get indoors when you heard thunder or see lightning, and remain inside for at least 30 minutes for the storm to pass before heading back out. Do not find shelter under dugouts, sheds or pavilions, or other small shelters. If experiencing intense weather, do not use or touch electronics, outlets, corded phones, or windows to reduce shock, and so not seek shelter under or near tall trees, do not go swimming, or stand near metal objects.

With many planning to head into the outdoors after a very long winter, if you are planning for a hike or camping trip, be mindful of these tips as weather can come up suddenly in the mountains.
