The Bureau of Land Management has announced that access to a trailhead on the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail west of Susanville will be temporarily restricted in mid-July, while construction crews complete improvements to the access road and parking area.

Temporary public safety closures will be in place at the Devil’s Corral Trailhead, from Monday, July 7, until Saturday, July 11, and again from Monday, July 14, through Friday, July 18, while the access road and parking area are graded and re-graveled.

“This is a major project that will involve graders, dump trucks, loaders and power rollers, creating safety issues for visitors,” said Emily Ryan, manager of the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office in Susanville.  “However, people will still be able to access the trail by using parking along the wide shoulder of Highway 36 next to the trailhead entrance and in a cleared area across the highway from the Devil’s Corral access road.”

The project area will be signed, and BLM personnel will be on hand while work is underway to direct parking and trail access.

Trailheads in Susanville, at Hobo Camp and at Mason Station will not be affected by the project. A trail map shows trailheads and connections to the parallel Southside Trail.

Information on current conditions is available from the BLM Eagle Lake Field Office, 530-257-0456.
