Through an Artist-in-Residence program at the Lassen Volcanic National Park, an original musical score was created featuring the sounds of the volcanic area. ”

Lassen Awakes!” is the product of composer and national park enthusiast Marko Bajzer and the North State Symphony. The symphony’s Music Director, Scott Seaton, told Intermountain News that the piece “depicts the immense beauty and power that has been displayed at Lassen throughout its history.”

Throughout this past summer, Marko spent the entire month of June capturing sounds by climbing volcanoes and recording the park’s many hydrothermal features, whose bubbling and hissing will be part of the piece. This original score will be performed on May 13th in Redding and 14th in Chico; tickets to the performance can still be purchased.

The Artist in Residence (AIR) program at Lassen Volcanic National Park offers amateur and professional artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form in the park’s environment. You can learn more by visiting the national park services website.
