A vegetation fire, named the Blue Fire, broke out near Highway 395 and Old Lambert Lane in Standish yesterday afternoon, quickly growing to approximately five acres and threatening multiple structures.
The fire was first reported at 1:43 PM when smoke was spotted on the Antelope Mountain Susanville fire camera. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire had already spread to about an acre, fueled by dry grass and brush. Incident Command noted a slow to moderate rate of spread, with the fire held between Highway 395 and Lambert Lane.
By 1:56 PM, the fire had doubled in size to two acres. Air Attack requested the support of four Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) as the fire began to encroach upon nearby outbuildings and a barn. The situation became more critical minutes later when the fire expanded to five acres, fully involving at least one barn.
Thanks to the swift response of air and ground crews, the fire’s forward progress was halted. By 3:01 PM, all air resources were released, with only a few ground units remaining to ensure the area was secure. As of 4:41 PM, the fire was officially declared controlled, with crews continuing mop-up operations to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. The swift action of firefighting teams helped prevent further damage, protecting the community from what could have been a far more destructive event.
