The spooky season may be upon us, but Christmas is already on Susanville’s mind.

The City Council has approved the construction of a permanent Christmas tree stand for this year’s annual Magical Country Christmas event.

Public Works Director Bob Goodman announced that the new stand will include a wrap-around sidewalk to solidify its foundation. The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce will provide the materials and labor for the project, with Colbert Construction sponsoring and completing the work.

Lassen County Chamber Executive Director David Teeter praised the council for being an example of working together to enhance the city and county. City Manager Dan Newton explained that the stand will be a raised octagon-shaped platform, replacing the current flagpole site. During the off-season, the flagpole will remain on the platform.

Teeter expressed his gratitude to the council for their support and reassured the community that despite the disappointment of losing the Fourth of July fireworks show at the fairgrounds, the Magical Country Christmas event will still feature its traditional fireworks display on the first weekend of December to conclude the night’s festivities.
