Susanville Fire determines Monday’s brush fire on the Old Mill property was started by a person.
As Susanville Fire crews arrived, they found the fire had jumped across the river from the Old Mill property. A location not uncommon to often find homeless encampments. Cal Fire and Lassen National Forest fire crews assisted Susanville Fire with laying hose and cutting hand lines to stop forward progress. High winds that afternoon brought concern for rapid fire growth, but quick action from responders contained the flames to just over one acre. No injuries were sustained in battling the blaze.
The start of the fire, though determined to be human-caused, remains under investigation.
SFD was assisted by Cal Fire, Lassen National Forest, Janesville Fire Protection District, Susan River Fire Protection District, Susanville Police Department, and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department.
