Be aware smoke will be visible to the West of Susanville from a prescribed fire burn tomorrow. The burn is part of the Hog Flat Vegetation Management Project (VMP). Cal Fire’s Lassen Modoc unit says DO NOT BE ALARMED by the VISIBLE SMOKE IN THE AIR and DO NOT REPORT it.

The burn begins at 10 am along Hwy 44 between Hog Flat Reservoir and Goumaz Road.

This ongoing project will treat 40 acres of timber and understory. Calfire LMU says the project will occur as weather allows to ensure control, limit escape, and minimize poor air quality. In the event of high winds or other fire activity indicating the project cannot be conducted safely, the project will be rescheduled.

Use caution when traveling through the area; there will be increased amounts of emergency vehicles and firefighters along the highway.
