Seneca Healthcare District announces the addition of endometrial ablation to its women’s health service line at the Lake Almanor Clinic, providing local women with a safe, effective and minimally invasive treatment option for heavy menstrual bleeding.
The procedure is now being offered by Dr. Tamara Simon, a women’s health specialist with more than 18 years of clinical experience caring for women through every stage of life.
Heavy menstrual bleeding can significantly impact a woman’s quality of life, affecting work, family responsibilities, travel, social activities and overall well-being, said SHD. Endometrial ablation is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce or eliminate excessive menstrual bleeding by removing the endometrial lining, the tissue inside the uterus responsible for menstrual flow.
“Women should not have to plan their lives around heavy bleeding,” said Simon. “Novasure ablation is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that eliminates or significantly reduces a monthly cycle and relieves PMS symptoms. All this without downtime.”
Simon said she has successfully performed this procedure hundreds of times over the last decade. She adds, “By offering endometrial ablation locally, we can provide patients with a treatment option other than hysterectomy. Sometimes women do not realize how much they have been suffering from abnormal bleeding until after the procedure.”
The procedure is performed without external incisions and typically takes only a few minutes to complete, said SHD. Most patients return to normal activities within one to two days. For many women, treatment results in substantially lighter menstrual periods, and some experience the complete cessation of menstrual bleeding.
SHD said the benefits of endometrial ablation may include:
- Reduced or eliminated heavy menstrual bleeding
- No need for long-term hormone therapy or ongoing medication
- Preservation of the uterus while potentially avoiding hysterectomy
- Minimally invasive treatment with no external incisions
- Quick recovery and long-lasting symptom relief
Patients considering endometrial ablation will first undergo a comprehensive consultation to review symptoms, medical history and available treatment options. The procedure is generally recommended for women who have completed childbearing, as pregnancy following endometrial ablation is not advised.
“Our goal is to provide high-quality women’s health care close to home,” said Brady Haynes, SHD chief operating officer. “Expanding services like endometrial ablation helps ensure local women have access to advanced treatment options without the burden of traveling outside our community.”
SHD said Simon provides a full spectrum of compassionate and personalized gynecologic care, including preventive women’s health services, menopause management, hormone replacement therapy and treatment for a variety of gynecologic conditions. Appointments and consultations are available through the Lake Almanor Clinic, located at 199 Reynolds Road in Chester. Appointments are available via 1-833-227-3743 or [email protected].
