Reckless driving leads CHP to discover a large loot of narcotics, arresting two Oregon men along with the help of Lassen Sheriff deputies.

Reports of a reckless driver on 395 went out to the Susanville CHP office over the weekend on March 17th.

A CHP officer spotted a vehicle matching the description and pulled it over at the Chevron gas station on the Janesville Grade. The officer discovered that the car’s ignition had been tampered with and that the driver, Skylar Lowery of Albany, Oregon, did not have a valid driver’s license.

While the vehicle was being impounded, the officer discovered large quantities of what appeared to be psilocybin mushrooms and either oxycodone or fentanyl pills. The other man in the SUV fled into the gas station and was able to escape. The CHP office put out a be on the lookout (BOLO) for his arrest.

The next day, a Lassen County Sheriff’s deputy responded to a call for assistance from the CHP, who located him at the very same Janesville Chevron; he was identified as Asa Williams also from Oregon. Deputies attempted to detain him but Williams resisted arrest, pushing a deputy, and ran out the store’s back door. The deputy chased and caught Williams next to a nearby home.

During a search of Williams, a baggie of blue pills and a separate baggie of a white crystalline substance, believed to be meth, were discovered in his pocket. Williams attempted to destroy the evidence by swallowing a mouthful of pills but was subdued by the officers.

He was given a saline solution and water to rinse out his mouth. He was then placed under arrest and charged with Resisting a Peace Officer, Destroying and Concealing Evidence, and Possession of a Narcotic Controlled Substance.

Both Lowery and Williams are currently being held at the Lassen County Jail.
