Traffic Stop for Cell Phone Use Results in Drug Arrest

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at approximately 9:01 a.m., Susanville Police officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Main Street near Lassen Street when they observed the driver of a white Jeep Rubicon using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle, in violation of California Vehicle Code.

A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle near Main Street and Cottage Street. During the investigation, officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A records check revealed the driver was on Siskiyou County Probation with search terms.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 55 individual plastic containers containing suspected concentrated cannabis (THC concentrate). Officers also located approximately $1,930 (Cash) on the driver’s person.

The driver, identified as Austin Douglas Shapiro Heath, was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail on charges related to the possession for sale and transportation of concentrated cannabis.

The suspected concentrated cannabis, approximately $1,930 in cash, and other related evidence were seized and booked into evidence at the Susanville Police Department.
